Synensys, LLC is proud to announce the appointment of Mary Jennings “MJ” Hegar as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). A decorated combat veteran, accomplished author, and seasoned healthcare and technology executive, Hegar brings a wealth of leadership experience and operational expertise to the role.
MJ Hegar served in the United States Air Force for over a decade, where she spent five years as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer before serving three combat tours in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor and receiving a Purple Heart. Her military career was marked by a commitment to excellence and a pioneering spirit, including her successful legal challenge to the Ground Combat Exclusion Policy that opened doors for women in frontline military roles.
Following her service, Hegar transitioned into leadership roles in the private sector, where she applied her strategic acumen and mission-driven mindset to drive organizational growth and transformation in the healthcare, technology, and aviation industries. She holds both a Bachelor’s degree and Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and is a graduate of Leadership Austin’s Essential Class.
In her new role, Hegar will oversee Synensys’ operational strategy, drive process innovation, and lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact solutions for clients across the public and private sectors.
MJ Hegar is also the author of the bestselling memoir Shoot Like a Girl, which chronicles her journey through military service and advocacy. She has been featured in national media and recognized for her leadership and resilience, earning such distinctions as one of Foreign Policy magazine’s “Leading Global Thinkers” and Newsweek magazine’s “125 Women of Impact.”
